Measure armpit circumference

Armpit Circumference

Armpit circumference: The center of mobility. This measurement defines the size of the armhole. A precise value prevents the shirt from cutting in under the arms or slipping out of the pants when lifting your arms.

  • Path: Guide vertically once completely around the shoulder and through the armpit.
  • Goal: Determine the basic width for the armhole on the body.

Guide the tape measure from shoulder height under the armpit and back up again. This measurement is essential for constructing a comfortable armhole that sits close to the body but allows full mobility.

Important Note:

This guide is for determining your individual anatomical measurements (body measurements). These values are not identical to the measurements of a finished shirt, as a tailor adds a comfort allowance depending on the desired fit (e.g., Slim Fit or Comfort Fit).

Preparation:

Ideally, measure in light underwear or on bare skin. Stand relaxed and upright. A second person for support significantly increases accuracy.
